J Thomson Cup

BROUGHTY BOWLING CLUB J THOMSON SINGLES COMPETITION

The John Thomson Cup, first played for in 1945,and won by R C Tait is only open for entry to those club members who have not won ANY other singles competition. Therefore, if a player had not previously won the Thomson Cup, and in 2008 won the Club Championship Singles, they would no longer be eligible to enter this competition from the following season onwards. It is probably the hardest trophy to win as a result as once another singles competition has been won the opportunity has gone forever.
Interestingly John Thomson who donated the cup, or Neil Alexander from the current crop of well known Broughty players managed to win this trophy.
